A good bathroom cleaning hack can save you loads of time and effort, and can even make cleaning enjoyable. From the usual suspects of vinegar and bicarbonate of soda to some more surprising substances that you’d usually drink, not clean with, we’ve compiled a list of 10 bathroom cleaning hacks to help you spruce up your bathroom.

We’ve got hacks for your shower, toilet, bathtub and more, so read on for 10 quick and easy solutions that'll leave your entire bathroom gleaming.

1. Soak your showerhead in vinegar

To remove limescale from your showerhead, soak it in distilled white vinegar. If your showerhead is detachable, remove it and soak it in a bowl or vinegar, or if it’s fixed, fill a plastic bag with vinegar and tie it around your showerhead using an elastic band. In no time at all, your showerhead will be restored to its original, sparkling self.

2. Clean and de-mist mirrors with shaving foam

Using shaving foam to clean your mirrors will stop them from fogging up when your bathroom gets steamy. Simply apply a thin layer of shaving foam and then wipe it off, and you’ll have a shiny, steam-free mirror. You can use it on your shower doors too for a fog-free shower experience.

3. Make your taps sparkle with lemon

Cut a lemon in half and rub it against your chrome bathroom parts and accessories (this isn’t exclusive to taps). The acid will cut through watermarks, leaving you with a spotless finish once you’ve rinsed and buffed.

4. Remove mildew from your shower curtain with bicarb and vinegar

To tackle tough build-ups of mildew on your shower curtain, add a scoop of bicarbonate of soda to your washing powder and put it on a 30-degree wash in your washing machine. If your shower curtain is plastic, then at this stage you can hang it out to dry. If it’s fabric then put it through a rinse cycle, adding 100ml of distilled white vinegar, then hang it out to dry.

5. Make your mirrors shine with tea

Ready for one of our most surprising bathroom cleaning hacks? Black tea contains tannic acids that cut through grease and dirt and leave your mirrors gleaming. Simply brew a mug of black tea and wait for it to go cold, then pour it into a spray bottle and clean your mirrors until they glisten and shine. Use a clean cloth to dry and buff for a flawless finish.

6. Unclog your drains with vinegar and bicarb

You’ll come to realise that there’s little that can’t be resolved in the bathroom with white vinegar and bicarbonate of soda. To unblock your drains , pour a cup of bicarbonate of soda down your drain. Wait two or three minutes, then follow it with a cup of white vinegar. After an hour or so, pour very hot water down the drain, and this should clear out any unwelcome clogs of hair or gunk.

7. Clean your extractor fan with air spray

Extractor fans play a huge part in preventing mould and mildew in your bathroom, but if your extractor fan gets too dusty, it won’t work as efficiently. If you can’t reach your extractor fan with the extensions on your vacuum cleaner, use a can of air instead – the type that’s usually used for cleaning keyboards. Spray the fan, wipe it with a damp cloth, and you’ll have a fully functioning extractor fan once more.

8. Use a bleach pen on grout

As well as removing stains from fabric, bleach pens can also be used to clean the grout in your bathroom. Run a bleach pen along the grout and leave it overnight. The next day, use a sponge and warm water to wipe it clean, leaving your tiles looking as good as new.

9. Let Coca Cola clean your toilet

A little-known toilet cleaning hack involves one of the nation's favourite soft drinks. The same qualities that make Coca Cola bad for your teeth make it fantastic for removing rings, build-up and stains from your toilet bowl. Pour a can around the rim of your toilet so that it coats the entire bowl and let it sit for a few hours to work its magic. Scrub with a toilet brush, then flush to reveal a clean and shiny toilet.

10. Use a broom to clean your bathtub

Give your knees and back a break with this clever bathtub cleaning hack. Instead of getting down on your hands and knees to scrub your bathtub, try using a broom with soft bristles. Squirt some washing up liquid into your bathtub, get your broom slightly wet and then scrub away any soap scum and mildew. Rinse it all away and admire your gleaming bathtub.
